Prolonged Preservation of Human Platelets for Combat Casualty Care.

Abstract

The aim of this Phase I proposal was to develop protocols for extending shelf-life of platelets with 220C and 4 deg C storage and following cryopreservation. To achieve this aim, we have combined cryopreservation protocols with specific biochemical manipulations of the multicomponent signal transduction mechanisms present in platelets. This approach is designed to maintain both the numerical and functional recovery of platelets following storage.
