Drug Development Against Viral Diseases.

Abstract

Quinolamine (Riker Laboratories, AVS 1018) was eminently promising in the yellow fever virus primate model. Treatment before and after virus infection protected 5 virus inoculated monkeys from disease for 25 days. Two of 3 untreated cynomolgous monkeys infected with the Asibi strain of yellow fever virus died within 5 days of infection. Viremia in treated-monkeys was delayed and markedly reduced. Measurable alpha/beta interferon was present in serum of drug-treated animals weeks after initiating and maintaining drug therapy. Surviving monkeys developed dermal lesions when inoculated with wild-type vaccinia virus. Anti-viral drugs; Vaccinia virus; Yellow fever virus; RA 1.
