Real-Time, Light-Weight, X-Ray Imager. Phase 1.

Abstract

We investigated the feasibility of implementing a light-weight, large-area, high-resolution two-dimensional real-time digital x-ray imaging system based on using an integrated amorphous silicon photodetector array as the image sensor. A preliminary design for an image sensor with a sensitive area of 10 x 10 with 1280 x 1280 pixels coupled to an optimized high-efficiency scintillator Csl(TI) as an x-ray converter is presented. The digital image system has a sensitive area and an image resolution comparable to the traditional screen-film combination, but it has potentially much higher sensitivity and dynamic range.
