Geiger Counter Tubes

Abstract

Since the first demonstration of the tube counter by Geiger and Muller in July 1928, the unusual sensitIvity of such counters has found widespread applications in the detection of high speed particles and energetic photons. The extensive literature on Geiger counters is not only indicative of their mainfold uses but is also a measure of the divergence of the theories devised to explain their mechanisms and the numerous recipes prescribed for the preparation of good counters.
