Abstract

Assistive Technology Research Center. The Cognition and Performance Enhancement group reports on seven projects while the Rehabilitation Engineering group submits fourteen. The common theme in all the projects is application of technologies and methods developed or heavily used by the military to enhancement of medical rehabilitation and independent living for people with disabilities. Particular emphases include investigation of the ANAM psychometric battery; application of ANAM and other instrumented measurement to detecting and characterizing concussion; investigation of the cognitive effects of ginkgo on stroke patients; application and evaluation of virtual reality technologies; design of new composite long leg braces as well as assistive devices for exercise, biofeedback and recreation; and studies of gait and how it loads lower extremity orthotics and is altered by surgery.
