The Corps of Engineers has initiated an investigation of the Caliente Creek Stream Group at the joint request of the Kern County Board of Supervisors and Kern County Water Agency. The study area is located in Kern County southeast of the city of Bakersfield. This investigation will be part of the San Joaquin River Basin Investigation which was authorized by a resolution adopted 8 May l964 by the Committee on Public Works of the House of Representatives. The San Joaquin River Basin Investigation includes the Caliente Creek Stream Group. A brief feasibility report on the Caliente Creek Stream Group flood problems was prepared by the Corps of Engineers in l966. This report presented various flood control alternatives including a system of upstream reservoirs and also a system of foothill detention basins connected by diversion and percolation channels. In all plans considered, the separable cost of flood control exceeded the flood control benefits.
