Heat Resisting Metals for Gas Turbine Parts N-102

Abstract

A complete examination of microstructures of different alloys was made; and for those with promising high-temperature properties as determined by stress-analysis and creep tests, structures before and after heat treatment and aging and after testing are shown. Compositions of 47 alloys, supplied for tests and results of heat treatments are also shown. These alloys are of the precipitation aging type and most are stable at 1500 deg F. Research on chromium-tungsten alloys developed materials with excellent stress-analysis properties at 1600 deg F. Most alloys tested in stress-rupture and creep tests at 1500 deg F show little change in hardness as compared with heat treated materials.
