Free-Spinning Wind-Tunnel Tests of a Low-Wing Monoplane with Systemic Changes in Wings and Tails. 4. Effect of Center-of-Gravity Location

Abstract

Tests were performed to determine the effect of CG location on spin and recovery characteristics of a conventional low-wing monoplane with 24 different wing-tail combinations. It was found that the forward CG location steepens the spin, increases the spin coefficients, and improves recover, whereas the rearward location has an opposite effect on those characteristics. In general, there was a tendency for the rate of descent to increase and for the sideslip to become more outward as CG was moved forward.
