A Preliminary Investigation of the Electrical Structure of Thunderstorms

Abstract

Analysis of the type, the changes in potential gradient, and transfers of electricity in the lighting-stroke discharges of thunderstorms were made. Gradient data have been correlated with motion picture photographs of the clouds and by visual observations. Eight improved types of recording generating voltmeters were used to obtain information on the various phased of thunderstorm development. The process of charge generation appeared to be associated with the existence of precipitation forms.
