Tandem Air Propellers - 2

Abstract

Tests of three-bladed, adjustable-pitch, counterrotating, tandem model propellers adjusted to absorb equal power at maximum efficiency of the combination were made. Aerodynamic characteristics for settings in series of 10 degrees from 15-65 degrees at 0.75 R of forward propeller and for diameter spacing of 8.5, 15, and 30% were compared to 3- and 6-bladed propellers of same blade form. Results showed that at maximum efficiency, tandem propellers absorb double power of 3-bladed and 8% of 6-bladed propellers having same pitch of forward propeller of tandem combination.
