Effect of Rivet Pitch Upon the Fatique Strength of Single-Row Riveted Joints of 0.025- to 0.025-inch 24S-T Alclad

Abstract

Specimens were tested in a vibrating beam machine at 1800 cycles per minute dynamic load, and measured by electrical strain gage bridge and static tension tests in testing machine. S-N curves at range ratio of 0.2 were obtained for each value of rivet pitch as used in single row lap joint. Families of constant rivet pitch curves were developed, which define fatigue life for specimens. Curves showing variation of effective stress concentration factor in fatigue with rivet pitch and maximum load per rivet are established.
