Innovative Strategic Aircraft Design Study (ISADS) Phase 1

Abstract

This study dealt with technologies and concepts for a post-1995 manned penetrating strategic bomber. Applicable technologies were assessed in areas of aerodynamics, propulsion, structures, controls, and stealth, and were found to offer up to 50-percent reductions in cost and weight over current technologies. Five aircraft concepts were sized to a 'hi-lo-lo-hi' penetrating mission. Life cycle costs and master program schedules were prepared for each concept.
