Reliability. Part 1. Attributes Data,

Abstract

This report describes a system which comprises one or more subsystems with a network of interconnections. A subsystem is elementary in that it is taken, for the purpose of our analysis, to be indivisible, but is subject to experimental testing of the success/failure type. (This type of testing is often termed 'sampling by attribute'.) The network of a system expresses the totality of interrelationships between its component subsystems. The object of our investigation is the assessment of reliability, the probability that a system (or subsystem) will perform successfully when required to do so. The detailed objectives in this work are to clarify the assembly of Bernoulli trials data on subsystems and the processing of these into inferential statements concerning the performances of systems.
