EVALUATION OF TETRAALKYLAMMONIUM THIOPHENOLATES AS DESEALING REAGENTS FOR POLYSULFIDE SEALANTS,

Abstract

Tetraethylammonium thiophenolate and tetrabutylammonium thiophenolate were evaluated for their ability to deseal polysulfide sealants. While the use of potassium thiophenolate and tetraethylammonium thiophenolate is restricted to solvents such as dimethylformamide, tetrabutylammonium thiophenolate is also effective in mixtures of dimethylformamide (or dimethylacetamide) and aromatic hydrocarbon solvents such as toluene and xylene.
