Low Cost, Clipless Stringer Airfoil.

Abstract

The patent application relates to an improved airfoil, adapted for use as a wing structure, which eliminates the need for the use of clips in the conventional skin cover-to-rib connection; and, thereby, results in increase of fatigue life of the skin, and in lower cost, and decrease in weight, of the wing structure as a whole. The improved airfoil includes, as structure, a plurality of 'V'-configurated stringers disposed spanwise and having chordwise extending flanges at the apex and also at the end of each divergent leg, to which said apex flanges the skin cover is attached, and by which said leg-end flanges the fore-to-aft chordwise rib caps are attached.
