Flexural Disc Ceramic Transducer.

Abstract

The patent application describes a transducer where a plurality of vibratile assemblies drive a piston radiator. The assemblies are aligned along a common axis and reinforce each other in driving the radiator. Each assembly is comprised of a flexible circular disc with a hinged portion and a piezoelectric ceramic disc bonded to one side of a planar surface of the flexible circular disc. A drive rod assembly connects the flexible circular discs to the piston radiator. A positive stop prevents damage to the ceramic discs upon receipt of a shock wave. The transducer produces underwater sound of relatively low frequency for applications to sonar systems.
