Active Liquid Core Fibers.

Abstract

The patent application describes an optical fiber coupler which contains a liquid-crystal core through which optical radiation such as laser light is transmitted. The molecules of the liquid-crystal may be controlled by the application of an electric or magnetic field or thermal gradient which control passage of light through the liquid crystal core.
