Preparation of Rare Earth Compounds.

Abstract

In the patent application magnetostrictive elements are formed by mixing a metallic hydride with a transition metal and sintering the mixture. These materials were to be used as transducers and detectors. This element is formed by mixing a rare earth hydride with a transition metal powder and sintering. The formula is RFe2 where R is a rare earth or a mixture of rare earths. Especially useful are Dy, Er, Ho and Tb.
