Gas Cartridge Actuator.

Abstract

The patent application relates to an actuator for rupturing the frangible metal seal on small pressurized gas cylinders to release the contents, using an electroresponsive explosive device. Proper spacing between the explosive and the seal is maintained by a removable washer. An electric impulse from a remote site, hard-wired or telemetered, initiates the device. The resultant explosive gases, concentrated and shaped by an orifice through the washer impinge on and fracture the frangible seal. The dispensed gas may be used to erect a sonobuoy float, fill a life jacket or raft, or inflate a balloon.
