Infrared Plume Enhancement.

Abstract

The patent application relates to a method whereby an infrared plume is enhanced by the injection of both fuel and oxidizer into the nozzle divergence to generate a supersonic plume which acts as a hot pilot for the external combustion which cannot sustain without it. By secondary injection of both fuel and oxidizer at levels of 10 to 40 per cent of the main flow rate into the nozzle divergence, the plume infrared is increased by a factor of 2 to 6, thereby making it possible to enhance the exhaust infrared to levels normally attainable only in quiescent air.
