Bulkhead Adapter Assembly.

Abstract

The patent application relates to a holding and supporting assembly, adapted for use in releasably holding and supporting a conduit passing through an opening in and through a bulkhead. A preferred embodiment of the assembly comprises: a bolt-like configurated and integrated component which includes a head portion, and a cylindrically shaped, externally threaded shank portion having a plurality of slits therethrough, with resultant finger-like protrusions between slits; and a complementary internally threaded nut component. The conduit is passed through the bolt-like component which, in turn, is inserted into a bulkhead opening and the nut component is run down and tightened on the threaded shank portion, with the result that the finger-like protrusions releasably hold and support the conduit, without preventing axial movement. When high loads are applied to the bulkhead, the conduit slips axially through the adapter assembly, thus relieving the load and, unlike the prior art, preventing or minimizing leaks at the conduit-to-adapter assembly joint.
