An Obstacle Detection and Evaluation System.
Abstract
The patent describes an obstacle detection and shadow measurement system using a scanning radar having a narrow horizontal beamwidth for evaluating impediments to navigation. The invention relates to ultra-sonic frequency radar systems and, more particularly, to a radar method and apparatus suitable for use on polar ice or other surfaces of nearly uniform grade for determining the altitude, azimuth and range of an obstacle to navigation.
