Engine Mounting Tension Tie System.

Abstract

The patent application relates to a system for adapting an under-wing mounted jet engine for over-wing mounting by adding four tension members, two on each side, to the mounting installation at a location below the thrust line. The tension in these members replaces in part the fan duct blow-off loading and their location below the thrust line introduces bending moments which counter those causing the engine to deflect. Bleed air which varies with the engine thrust is used to energize the tension tie members in the form of pneumatic springs to allow for thermal and other strains and to accommodate engine thrust variations.
