A System for Compensating Self-Focusing and Self Phase Modulation in Lasers.

Abstract

This patent application is directed to the use of a material with a negative nonlinear index of refraction to compensate for the positive nonlinear index of refraction of a solid state laser amplifier. The negative-index material is placed between two laser amplifiers, or a laser amplifier may be placed between two negative index materials. A chain of such elements may be assembled in a laser system.
