High Reflectance Third Surface Mirror.

Abstract

In the patent application the total solar thermal reflectance of spacecraft protective mirrors is improved by providing the back surface of a silica platelet with a first silver film 400 to 600 A thick and a second aluminum film at least 700 A thick. The mirror exhibits the reflectance of silver in the red band and the average reflectance of silver and aluminum in the violet band while providing hardness to nuclear radiation.
