Variable Power Attenuator for Light Beams.

Abstract

The invention pertains to an improved variable light beam power attenuator which uses a flat mirror and a parabolic mirror fixed in a suitably movable structure; linear movement of which varies the diameter of a beam of light transmitted to a pinhole of pre-determined diameter. A second parabolic mirror and second flat mirror are provided to re-collimate the light received from the pinhole and to transmit an output light beam on the optical axis of the input light beam. A servo-controlled, motor drive system is provided to implement the variable attenuation feature.
