New Process for the Production of Unsymmetrical Dimethylhydrazine (UDMH).

Abstract

Unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (UDMH) is prepared in a four stage process in which ammonia is reacted with chlorine in the vapor phase in the first stage to produce chloramine; in the second stage the chloramine is absorbed in an organic solvent; in the third stage the chloramine solution is reacted with liquid dimethylamine; and the UDMH is isolated in pure form from the reaction mixture in the fourth stage.
