Double Acting Locking-Unlocking Actuator.

Abstract

A double acting actuator including a piston having flexible tension tangs at each end for engaging retainer rings near each extremity of the cylinder bore. A floating spring loaded disc holds the tang ends behind the retainer ring thereby locking the piston in position at the end of stroke. The piston is caused to move to the other end of the stroke by applying gas pressure to move the spring loaded disc back away from the piston releasing the tangs so that the piston can be driven to the other end of the stroke by sustaining the pressure.
