Wide Field-of-View Michelson Filter.

Abstract

An optical filter having a wide field-of-view and narrow passband is produced by introducing a line absorbing medium in one leg of the Michelson interferometer or a variant of that configuration such as the Mach-Zehnder arrangement. The absorption medium eliminates a preselected band of frequencies from one of the broad-band light beams, and, consequently, these frequencies are not canceled in the interference process when the initially transmitted and reflected beams are recombined. This arrangement effectively converts a spike absorber into a notch transmitter. (Author)
