Hot Wall Trunnion with Pressure Seal.

Abstract

A universal joint trunnion for use in controlling the operation of a nozzle on a rocket booster motor includes a critical c-ring 90 deg rotational in either direction which is isolated from the chamber pressure deflections of the swing disc and stub shaft assembly. A sealing aid compound is used in the outer chamber and inboard of a spherical bearing universal joint trapped by an elastomeric O-ring. The sealing aid compound in the inner chamber keeps the solid/liquid products of combustion from penetrating between and depositing themselves upon the mating surfaces of the spherical bearing.
