Weld Current Decay Device.

Abstract

In a welder, of the type having a saturable reactor with a control winding through which a current flows, a device controls the rate of decay of the output welding current. Means are provided for controlling any one of N different input currents, including a plurality of N capacitors, N > or = 2, each of which have two terminals. Means for connecting any one of the capacitors in the controlling means causes a corresponding change in the current through the control winding. The connecting means may be a single-pole, (N+1) tap, switch, whose taps are connected to the capacitors. The connection to any specific tap determines the magnitude and phase of the current through the control winding, and therefore the decay time of the welding current. (Author)
