Swash-Plate Pump with Improved Inlet Porting.

Abstract

An improved inlet porting arrangement is provided for a swash-plate type pump. The pump has a plurality of pistons mounted within cylinders in a casing, the casing having a chamber at one end of the cylinders and one way valves mounted at the opposite ends of the cylinders. Springs bias the pistons toward the chamber end and a swash plate is mounted within the chamber, the swash plate having a shaft rotatably extending through the casing. The improvement consists essentially of the swash plate having a semi-arcuate groove which faces the piston ends. A foot slidably mates with the end of each respective piston so as to be capable of rocking thereon, and each foot has an opposite end which slidably and sealably engages the swash plate. The feet and pistons have passageways which communicate with one another to the one-way valves, and a fitting is provided for introducing fluid into the casing. With this arrangement, upon rotating the swash plate, the semi-arcuate groove within the swash plate picks up fluid within the chamber during one 180 deg cycle and delivers it to the passageways within the feet and the pistons during the other 180 deg cycle.
