High Stability Commutator Bar.

Abstract

A means for improving the stability of rotating mechanical devices, e.g., commutators, is provided. Radial movement of a commutator bar is substantially reduced by forming a layered bar comprising a layer of copper or copper alloy bonded explosively or otherwise to a base of high elastic modulus material such as stainless steel or steel alloy. The improved stability reduces brush wear and the onset of destructive arcing. (Author)
