Electrical Cable Molded Seal Assembly.

Abstract

This invention relates to an electrical cable molded seal assembly for sealing an electrical cable penetration through a bulkhead. The assembly includes a housing, follower, clamp plate, retaining disc, conductor rods and a molded seal assembly. The electrical cable includes an outer jacket, an inner jacket and a plurality of insulated conductors. Conductor rods are individually connected to the individual conductor wires. The molded seal assembly comprises a non-conducting elastomeric material that is molded onto the lower end of the electrical conductor so that it encloses and seals against the outer jacket, inner jacket, spread out insulated conductors and the upper ends of the conductor rods. The molded seal assembly is cylindrical and has an outside diameter that is slightly larger than the interior diameter of the housing. The lower end of the housing is inserted through the bulkhead and welded thereto. The molded seal assembly is inserted into the housing with the conductor rods inserted through openings in a retainer disc and through the bulkhead. A clamp plate connects a follower to the upper end of the housing and compresses the molded seal assembly into a tight high pressure seal between the housing and cable. (Author)
