Rotating Squid Magnetometers and Gradiometers.

Abstract

A method and apparatus for measuring the strength, direction and gradients of an unknown magnetic field, through the use of rotating superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUID). The apparatus utilizes SQUID magnetometers, off-diagonal SQUID gradiometers and diagonal SQUID gradiometers mounted upon a rotatable and translatable element to a plurality of positions in space. The instantaneous outputs of a plurality of SQUID devices are electronically analyzed to provide the magnetic field and gradient measurements. (Author)
