Missile Impact Location System, Method, and Apparatus.

Abstract

An improved sonobuoy having the ability to receive and transmit Global Positioning System data from satellites and is used in an array of GPS, active, and passive sonobuoys to locate the impact of reentry vehicles. GPS data and acoustic signature data is transmitted to a nearby aircraft for data processing and storage. Pingers on the GPS sonobuoys allow other sonobuoys' positions to be determined with high accuracy. This system allows for accurate determination of RV impact points. (Author)
