High-Energy-Beam-Hardened Armor Plate.

Abstract

Briefly the aforestated objects are achieved by subjecting various armor plates of predetermined hardness to high energy beams, such as generated by lasers and suitable electron beam generators. By this novel method, there are created the varied area patterns of preferably varied degrees of hardness in combination with various armor plate material of initial different hardness, thus improving the penetration-resistance thereof to potential armor piercing projectiles. Various patterns of hardness and of plate arrangement can be made. These will be discussed and described in more detail hereinafter, taken in conjunction with the following illustrative drawing figures.
