NF4XeF7 and (NF4)2XeF8.

Abstract

This invention relates to energetic inorganic salts and more particularly to salts containing the Nf4(+) cation. NF4(+) salts are key ingredients for solid propellant NF3 -F2 gas generators, and for high detonation pressure explosives, This invention also provides a new, selective, laser-induced, photolytic method for converting NF4XeF7 into (NF4)2XeF8. The latter compound not only provides the highest NF3-F2 yield of any presently known compound, but also gives the highest theoretical detonation pressures in explosive formulations (about 50 kbar higher than corresponding formulation containing (NF4)2NiF6).
