An Efficient Optical Design for a Matched Filter Correlator.

Abstract

Document describes an optical system which uses a Wollaston prism in place of a beam splitter to maximize the throughput of the coherent light by taking full advantage of the polarization-dependent characteristics of the basic correlator design. It eliminates one collimating lens and up to two linear polarizer elements, while yielding a compact in-line arrangement and eliminating the need for any folding-path mirrors in order to achieve a small overall package design.
