Tunable Gyro-Klystron.

Abstract

Document describes a tunable gyro-klystron amplifier. A first tunable cavity and a second tunable cavity are serially disposed along an axis in an axial magnetic field. The first cavity is excited to resonate by an input electromagnetic wave. A beam of relativistic electrons traveling along helical paths is directed along the axis through the cavities. The input wave and the electron beam interact in the magnetic field to amplify the input wave to develop an output electromagnetic wave in the second cavity. A third cavity may be disposed along the axis between the first and second cavities to increase the gain of the amplifier. (Author)
