Expendable Bathythermograph for Measuring Light Attenuation and Temperature Below the Ocean Surface.

Abstract

An expendable bathythermograph sensor is modified to include a fiber optic light pipe mounted thereon to carry incident light to a photodiode unit located inside the sensor. A thermistor is mounted on the sensor, and the photodiode unit includes multiplexed electronics for transmitting both optical and temperature data to measure temperature and light as a function of ocean depth.
