Sump Arrangement for Snorkel Intake.

Abstract

There is disclosed an improved sump arrangement for use on a submarine equipped with a snorkel for handling intake air when submarine is operating just below the ocean surface at periscope depth. The sump is located in a fan room aboard the submarine depth. The sump is located in a fan room aboard the submarine and is designed to effectively separate water from intake air and selectively throttle the volume of air during periods of excessive water intake for allowing the system to reach an operating equilibrium.
