Thermally Buffered Sodium-Neon Laser Target for Coherent X-Ray Production.

Abstract

Objects of this patent application include: Generating coherent x-rays. Use Na and Ne to produce x-rays; and providing a thermal buffer between Na and Ne to prevent the Na from heating and overionizing the Ne and precluding the generation of coherent x-rays. These and othe objects are accomplished with an apparatus for generating coherent x-rays comprising: an Na layer; a Ne layer; a thermal transparent buffer layer located between and in contact with the Na layer and the Ne layer; a lower power laser to heat the Ne layer; and a higher power laser to heat the Na layer.
