Method of Making a Miniature Scale Periodic Permanent Magnet Array and Miniature Scaled Periodic Permanent Magnet Array so Formed.

Abstract

A miniature scale periodic permanent magnet array is made from a magnetic material having a high intrinsic coercive force and a magnetic material having a low intrinsic coercive force by depositing alternating layers of the high and low intrinsic coercive force materials, exposing the layered structure to a strong in the film plane magnetic field to saturate the layers, applying a reverse in the film plane field to the layered structure of a magnitude just sufficient to reverse the magnetic moments of the magnetic material having the low intrinsic coercive force, and removing all external magnetic fields; the resulting magnetization state being one of oppositely directed moments in successive layers. A gap region is etched into the layered structure in which periodic reversing magnetic fields are located. (Patent Applications)
