Gloss Measurement Device.

Abstract

A simple inexpensive gloss measurement device which makes use of the measurement of a maximum angle of view of a clear reflection to obtain a measurement of gloss, consists of an instrument of L-shaped configuration with one or more small images (e.g., hollow squares) on the lower portion of the shorter arm and a graduated scale along edges of the longer arm. The device is placed on a coated surface of the coating. The highest angle of view at which reflection of the images on the coating can be clearly recognized is noted on the graduated scale as a measure of the gloss of the coating.
