Security Indicating Attachment for Safe-Type Apparatus.
Abstract
An improved battery-operable, security indicating attachment for use preferably with a conventional combination dial lock on one or more drawers of a safe-type apparatus. The apparatus is generally made up of drawer-position sensing means, a microprocessor (processor means), visual and audio alarm means, and signal generating and detecting means. The sensing means is operatively associated with the battery power supply, the processor means and the generating and detection means. The generating and detection means is generally made up of separate pairs of relatively spaced signal generating means is and signal detecting means. A signal reflecting means on the dial face of a combination lock. The signal reflecting means is operatively associated with the separate pairs of signal generating and detecting means for determining when the closed drawer is properly secured after a predetermined number of turns of the dial face in either direction and within a given time period. By reason of the particular manner in which the microprocessor is programmed and operatively associated with the sensing means and the signal generating and detecting means, it will indicate by the audio/visual alarm means when the drawer is opened and when the closed drawer is either properly or improperly secured. Any attempt to tamper with the attachment in order that it might falsely indicate proper securing of the closed drawer is effectively prevented by the various packaged components of the improved attachment and the particular programming of the microprocessor thereof.
