Compact Electromechanical Transducer Structure.

Abstract

A compact piezoelectric transducer is obtained through the use of piezoelectric polymer materials. The size of the transducer is reduced by disposing an air gap therein to isolate the response of the polymer material along its stress coefficient axis of greatest sensitivity. Transducer size is also reduced by securing all the components thereof with only an encapsulant. Affixment of the polymer material to at least one rigid member is provided when an increased operating frequency range is desired for the transducer.
