System and Method for Airborne Gravity Measurement Using Interferometric Positioning from Satellites.

Abstract

A system and method for performing airborne gravity measurements using interferometric positioning from satellites is disclosed. The airborne gravity measurement system comprises: a plurality of satellites spaced apart in orbit about the earth for selectivity transmitting carrier waves; an earth-based station which includes a first receiver responsive to the carrier waves from the satellites for developing a first set of carrier phase measurement signals, and a first data acquisition system for time-tagging and storing the first set of carrier phase measurement signals; an airborne vehicle which includes a gravimeter for producing gravimetry data representative of the vertical acceleration of the airborne vehicle at each selected point, a second receiver for developing a second set of carrier phase measurement signals, and a second data acquisition system for time-tagging and storing the gravimetry data and the second set of carrier phase measurement signals: and a gravimeter processor responsive to the time-tagged gravimeter data and the time-tagged first and second sets of carrier phase measurement signals for determining the magnitude of the gravity in relation to the airborne vehicle. Patent applications. (JHD)
