Single Fiber Optical Telephone Set.

Abstract

The present invention comprises a telephone set or what is sometimes called a subscriber terminal which provides the necessary and important means to connect an all optical telephone receiver set to a single optical fiber feeder line from a central station. The single optical fiber used in this type communications system replaces the heretofore used normal twin pipe coaxial cable. The benefits of using the fiber optic link are that savings can be effected in weight, bulk, and power consumption. If the local station or consumer station is a military telephone set, low weight and maximum portability and reliability are very important together with the elimination of power consuming weighty components which would ordinarily have to be carried or attached to or incorporated in the portable communications equipment. Patent applications. (rh)
