Abstract

Magnetic energy is converted into mechanical energy by applying a changing magnetic field to a rare earth alloy of the formula Tb(x)Dy(l-x) at a temperature in the range of about K to 170K, wherein x and the operating temperature are selected to minimize the basal plane anisotropy.
